Kevin i can't say enough good things about Russell Hoban. i love his his children's books but his adult writing- what this book contains- is fantastic as well. his writing is clear but enchanting and eloquent. he does not tell you, he shows you; never dumbing down the prose. deep philosophies and quasi-mystical elegies are never very far from the surface of his stories even when they are about the most mundane trivialities of life.

most of the stories in this book feel like they were written for the Twilight Zone, having some mix of magical fantasy and "real" life. the only one that did not was the Turtle Diaries but it was wonderfully quirky glimpse into the intimate thoughts of two characters that were more than cardboard cutouts.

wonderful stuff. i highly recommend it.
