one of the most beautiful and wrenching books i've read. i still can't believe that this novel wasn't awarded the pulitzer (in a year no book won the award). it takes the best sort of writer to write about the evils of humanity in an honest and simplistic way, without going too far one way or the other and morphing into horror or satire. lost memory of skin reminds us that many monsters are just insecure, undersocialized, and perhaps (most frighteningly) sympathetic young men.
