"Though sci-fi is not a genre I typically read, I found Briggen to be an engaging blend of medieval fantasy and sci-fi--and hard to put down. At 476 pages, I thought it would take me a long time to read. It did not. As the story progressed, I found myself pulled in by empathetic characters and their impossible dilemma. Briggen, the warrior prince, reluctantly returns to the very place he had run from eight years previous. His home. Home has changed in his absence and, upon his return, he is challenged for the throne as he claims his right to it. To add fuel to the fire, he also faces political unrest, a massive invasion from warrior tribes that will lay waste to his planet if they are not stopped, and another unforeseen and powerful enemy that is too close to home. Alone, Briggen has not the power to face so many battle fronts at once, but united with an orphaned freighter pilot named Telana, an old wizard, the Alliance, and a fire-breathing dragon, Briggen finds his odds greatly improved. Ann B. Keller has written a wonderful story. If you love sci-fi and you love fantasy, this is an entertaining mix you don’t want to miss. Loyalty, love, friendship, and duty are all addressed, making Briggen a life lesson to us all. Briggen will draw you in until the very last satisfying sentence."
