it was ok
bookshelves: coming-of-age, sports, ya-fiction

Not the topics I would normally want to read about, and it was difficult to read much of the book, but this is one of those books that could be THE one that gets a kid who has never read anything, to read. Full of issues surrounding a high profile high school football team where everyone is vying for an athletic college scholarship, including corrupt adults, steroid use, hazing and more. I actually gasped out loud I was so shocked by one scene in the book, shocked that the character would do what he did...the bystanders' actions were, on some level, more understandable, as they didn't have any idea what he really was planning on. If you want to spend a little time inside the head of a football captain with a father who is trying to play out his own broken dreams through his son's life, this is the book to read.
