#17 of the Harry Bosch series-This author gets better every time he writes another book. Several years ago I went to a book signing of Connelly’s. I remember thinking Connelly seemed uncomfortable and a bit shy when he spoke in front of the crowd. I thought about that reading this book. I read somewhere that good writers are observers; on the outside looking in. I think this is an attribute of Connelly of which makes him a great writer. His characters are complex, consistent from book to book.

In this book, Bosch is part of the cold case department. A discovery is made on an old case that doesn’t make any sense and Bosch is up to the challenge. At the same time, an advisory has asked for Bosch’s help in determining how his son died. Inner turmoil is a trait Bosch struggles with every day. He is always torn between towing the line of justice and letting the chips fall and letting fate take over.

This book was action packed and hard to put down. I couldn’t wait to get back to it and now I’m sad it’s over. Every time I read a Michael Connelly, I am always reminded as to why he is one of my favorite authors.
