Wow, didn't expected so much entertainment from this little piece! I don't care much for the horse racing, the crowds I've seen at York: all fancy dress up, rich people with funny hats, going to see poor horses run - I mean, sad really. This book opened my mind to horse racing from a different point of view. Awesome detective work. I love the main character, his personality is so cool. The fast-paced action scenes and the chase are amazing! The language is slightly archaic (e.g. the use of word 'gay' to describe an excited person), the use of old means of communication and music playing, but most notably the culture: I mean, when he mentions what band could play at the races to promote them - I just went "OMG this is beyond amazing that the author lived in those times", today it would be Lady G, ehh world. My first novel by Dick Francis.
