it was amazing
bookshelves: adult-fiction, own, crime, favourites, classics, friendships, romance, incest, mm-content

I adored every moment of this and, now that it's over, I feel quite empty to think that there's nothing left to read.

I suppose, as a Classicist, it hits all the right buttons for me. The key characters are people I've known, people I can see myself in, and people I'd like to be. And, I suppose, that's the darkest element of the novel: murder seems somehow insignificant. The perpetrators are the ones you care about, not the deceased.

I shall be buying my own copy. I think that says it all :)

Donna Tartt
“Does such a thing as 'the fatal flaw,' that showy dark crack running down the middle of a life, exist outside literature? I used to think it didn't. Now I think it does. And I think that mine is this: a morbid longing for the picturesque at all costs.”
