it was amazing
bookshelves: top-ten

A pretty perfect novel. I can praise it no more highly than saying it took John Irvingesque, larger-than-life characters and wove them into John le Carré plot in a style that reminded me of both these brilliant writers when on the top of their form. Alec Leamas meets Owen Meany.
Some of it is set in Vienna. Sadly, there are no bears. The fictional life of The Perfect Spy, Magnus Pym, (and his father) would have no better epitaph than 'sorrow floats'.
