it was ok
bookshelves: contemporary-fiction, novel, reviewed, america

Normally, I feel that the rating I give a book is not a frivolous opinion of how I 'personally feel', but a well-supported analysis of the quality and place of the book in the wider literary sphere. However, this book is an exceptional case. I simply could not much get into the theme or characterization despite the fact that the book was written well and intelligently explored its chosen topics.

I suppose that, to some degree, I subscribe to the literary theory that the story is unimportant and that the quality and form of the telling can make any story interesting. However, this book makes me question that assertion.

Laura I agree with a lot of the things you say. I thought the book was incredibly boring despite its interesting topic. I thought Invisible Man was extremely disappointing.
