it was amazing

Like nothing I've ever read, or expect to read again. A unique setting, both on Earth and in virtual reality; characters who span a wide range of personality types but are all generally reasonable; sub-plots and character arcs resolving in clean, satisfying ways everywhere you look. Renie and !Xabbu are two of the best people I've met this year, and I miss them already.

...sadly, I'm only describing 75% of the series here, because it falls off hard at the end. But City of Golden Shadow is still worth picking up, and if you like it, you should read the second and third books and then pretend that the series is over, dead before its time.

Or you can skim the fourth volume until you reach the touching epilogue, which almost makes up for... okay, I shouldn't write reviews when I'm annoyed. This series is mostly excellent, and it played in my head like a movie for the entire duration of my reading, which doesn't usually happen, even with fiction.
