really liked it

I'll admit that I have had difficulty, in the past, reading Patrick White. So I apporached this one with caution.

But I needn't have. It is one of his more accessible novels and I found a delight to read.

It's the story of an explorer in Australia and the love of his life. But you know that the whole will be far more exitential than that.

Completing this novel has made me less scared of reading more White.

Reading this was part of a project I set myself in 2004 – to read all the Miles Franklin Award Winners before the winner was announced in 2007 for the prize’s 50th anniversary. It was a tough call to get hold of all the novels and to get through them all, but I did it.
