** spoiler alert ** Ryoko Kiyama, a manga-style teenager from another dimension, somehow manages to slip through into our world, where National Security takes him into custody until a way can be found (they’re repairing a machine) to send him back where he belongs. His human advocate, Dr. Capeletti, wants him to experience “real life” so he sends him to high school where Ryoko meets and falls in love with pretty and popular Marissa. She’s just broken up with her stupid jock boyfriend and is not averse to getting to know the new guy, and not only because he’s totally out of this world – he’s also smokin’ hot! Unfortunately, it looks like Ryoko’s not long for our world. As soon as the machine is fixed, they’re sending him back and permanently sealing the rift between the worlds. How can Ryoko and Marissa be together?

Pokes fun at all kinds of manga tropes – the excessive sweating, the chibi transformations, movement lines – none of these things function quite like they’re supposed to on the page. This makes Ryoko a curiosity and a freak, but also kind of cool, too. Funny and suspenseful – plus, kaiju attack!!! Love the ending. Manga fans (particularly shoujo) should eat this up in an hour or so. Delicious!
