it was amazing

Comic 17 of the ongoing series involved Peridot playing a video game to distract herself from missing Lapis. After she gets a little too involved in the game, Steven attempts an intervention with the Gems' help, and eventually they discuss healthy coping skills.

Everyone was very in character here, and there were so many easy references to canon material from the show that I felt comfortable just seeing this as an extension of what happens on TV. It's very like Peridot to become competitive and hyper-analytical over a video game (and of course, to relish superiority), but it's so bittersweet to watch her doing this in the wake of missing her companion and wallowing a bit every time something reminds her of her.

And then of course, this Garnet fan is tickled that the solution involved just sending Garnet over there to beat Peridot at the game on her first try. This seems like a weird digression but I just really love that Garnet is competitive and confident and so competent, and because of that some people would interpret her behavior as smug or aggressive, but she never smirks or rubs it in anyone's face that she's better than just about everyone at just about everything. She just knows that she is, and it's a fact, and now she'll use that responsibly to extricate Peridot from the game.

Seeing the Gems rally around Peridot to keep her company and support her was just so wholesome and I love it.
