This one was a “page turner.” Despite Miss Julia, Lloyd, and Etta Mae going after sophisticated jewel thieves in Florida, it’s still a light and pleasant tale. She manages to parse little sermons while handling crises such as a stinking, vomiting drunk on her bed, or a lamentable need to wear green polyester pants with some spandex in them. All these circumstances are beneath her, but she does what she has to do. Reality takes it in the shins here, but I enjoyed it. A great culmination scene in a parking lot full of tourists, SUV’s, and hundred dollar bills.

An observation about the numbering of these volumes: I believe this one should come before the “School of Beauty,” and I wonder if there has been a mixup. This story should come first due the the detail of a certain red car.
