it was amazing

I put off reading this book for a long time, thinking it was going to be too heavy when I wanted to read something light. But somehow, despite the heavy subject matter, Stockett managed to write a funny, breezy novel. This book sucks you right in, and the main characters, Skeeter, Aibilleen, and Minny, are fantastic. It's painful and downright embarrassing to read about the treatment of the black characters in the book, knowing that this behavior really happened, and in a lot of places in the South, these attitudes are still prevalent. It's nice to see the worst offender in the book come out looking like the fool she is, and in such a caricatured fashion.

I wanted to read this book before watching the movie, and now that I'm finished, I'm about to sprawl out on the couch and watch it!

I highly recommend this book.
