did not like it
bookshelves: abandoned

This book is less than the sum of its gimmicks. I couldn't help comparing this book to 'The heart is deceitful above all things' and 'The Collector'. Each of those successfully enveloped me in their narrators' worlds. 'Room' did not. Maybe I was the wrong reader at the wrong time. As it stands, I could not fully invest in the plot because a portion of my brain was busy appraising Emma Donoghue's devices. I blame those devices for making Emma Donaghue too obvious a presence and so undermining the child narrator's voice.
