it was amazing

Typical Bryson -- extremely enjoyable. Wonderfully literate writing that combines delightful vocabulary, wry humor and the illusion that you're actually learning something (of course, it goes down so effortlessly that, after about 3 days, I retain only a vague and fuzzy memory that I once heard something interesting on the topic. The more lasting effect is a desire for a better vocabulary. His is so wonderful - its a delight to read and an aesthetic pleasure.
