Another McCall Smith book in the Isabel Dalhousie series. I have found with his series that I'm not 100% keen on the first book but as the series develops, his characters become more rounded out and more endearing. He starts a series with many characters and they are often one dimensional but as each book provides the characters with more situations to interact in, we learn more about them...their integrity or lack of, their humor, sensitivity etc. You become more involved and want to know them better. That's what I like about him as an author and that's what I like about his books.

Sarah Hi Aunt Carol - Good to know that the characters development often happens in the second book and on... I read the first ladies detective agency book and was hesitant to continue in the series. Thanks for the good advice!
