really liked it
bookshelves: classic, fairy-tale, fantasy, graphic-novel, leisure

I've heard people say that the first Sandman storylines aren't the best, and that is yet to be seen since this is the first I've read, however if this is what's considered sub-par I can't wait to read the next ones. Gaiman does his typical pulling from literature and mythology to craft a dark and compelling story. The illustrations vary with the mood of what is going on, which I really like and of course the covers by Dave McKean are wonderful. Another thing I like about this graphic novel is the writing... the pictures are a huge part of it, but Gaiman uses narration as well as dialogue to round out the story. I'm pretty excited about picking up the next few volumes.
