A Dance with Dragons 1: Dreams and Dust (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5, Part 1 of 2)

This was the second time I started reading the book, but I'm glad I stuck with it and finished it this time. There were fewer gruesome deaths in this book, but a lot of plans were made and many threads set free along different tracks, in preparation for what is to come. On one end, the Mother of Dragons battles with her own thoughts about wanting to stay and protect her cities vs wanting to march down to Westeros to claim her throne. On the other end, we have the last remaining Baratheon making his own plans, even as the Martells and The Golden Company plots as well. The Wall is just as much in peril as the rest of the Land and the new Commander must do everything it takes to defend it and ready themselves for their own challenges ahead. Meanwhile Bran discovers he will never walk again despite the dreams he dreamt about what the three-eyed crow could do for him.... But he discovers other things as well. And finally there's the Turncloak who looks like he might not be losing his spine completely. All in all, a brilliant journey.
