really liked it

This book gave a heart-breaking description of the treatment of girls and women in early 19th century China, including the tradition of foot-binding, though the story of the special friendship of the two girls was captivating. I was startled to read that foot-binding killed one out of ten girls and found learning about a culture so foreign to my own made me appreciate more the freedoms I have here in 21st century US.
