really liked it
Read in January, 2009

I enjoyed this book, the first in the series for a few reasons. First, I think that the character of Harry Dresden is pretty unique. How many wizard detectives do you run across in stories after all? And second the author does seem to have done his homework and have some occult knowledge on what a practitioner of this sort of magic might do in terms of protection, conjuring etc. I enjoyed that also. It is a very different sort of way to look at the world , like the bar/restaurant for magical types, and Harry's personal conflict with living a life filled with this sort of magic, passed down through family connections. I am glad I have gotten in to this series, now two books in, though I am not as big a fan of book two. Also, my hubby and I had a great time watching the TV series (I rented it on netflix after reading the first book) and only wish it had lasted longer. At least we have the books!
