Ok I realise this book has problems, and really it's more like a 3.5 star read if i felt like being objective, which I don't, because whatever faults there were with this story, it kept me smiling pretty much through out.
One of the main issues I had with this book is that it felt too long for a ya teen contemporary. Honestly if the MC didn't keep making the same silly decisions over and over and over I'm pretty sure this could have been cut down to a 300 page count. I like a stubborn character that doesn't see what's right in front of their face, but I also like them to realise their stupidity after screwing up once. Unlike our heroine who just kept up with her silly plan even after she was told it wasn't working.
Dallas, the swoonworthy other half, is just too good to betrue believable. Cello player, coder, decent teenage boy, that other thing. Like, boy is giving me a serious complex about where my life is compared to where it should be when I'm like a gazillion years older than him.
The MC's decision to not tell anyone about the scary behaviour of Jake the Snake. SERIOUSLY?
So yes problems. But like I said this book kept me smiling like a moron, which is an achievement because I am not a trekkie fan. I don't think I've even seen it, so some of the references went over my head, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.
