An excellent book for anyone tired of poor media, especially TV. Since I look at various alternative sources, I had heard of several of these topics, like Google spying, private prisons and how they operate, plastic dumps in the ocean, the high rate of suicide among soldiers along with self-medication, and Monsanto and GMO labeling. Others were totally new to me, like IPods being made in Chinese sweatshops, Obama authorizing international assassination (although recently, several have shown up in mass media but I thought that was just the CIA, not directly from the president), or the trafficking of Iraqi women. There is also a great section on propaganda, which I can readily recognize in the usual media. This is because large corporations own much of the media--GE owns NBC, Disney owns ABC and ESPN, Westinghouse owns CBS etc, and they want certain views put forth. A good example was the Iraq war on TV news in 2003 although of course, that wasn't part of this book, which only deals with the past year.
This is definitely NOT a left-leaning publication since it profiles current events so both parties are criticized.
