** spoiler alert ** EW #1 FICTION BOOK OF THE YEAR

WOW. I just finished this book on my way to work and cannot believe what I just read. The author is a Jesuit priest from Nigeria and the book is a collection of short stories about children in different parts of Africa. Every story is chilling (this is not a 'feel-good' read to say the least) with the descriptions of extreme poverty and strife that the characters go through.

What is really chilling, though, is knowing that the author used fictional characters in real situations to describe some of the horrific things that have happened and continue to happen in parts of Africa. The Rwandan genocide, children being sold to slavery, and religious conflicts.

I recommend this book to anyone who may be ready to have their eyes opened. This world exists, whether we like it or not.
