honestly, i don't care for this book in its entirety. for me, the writing exercise are a little too exercise-ish. but there's a chapter called "Syntax" that is perfect for my memoir class that focuses on the Traditions that keep us from writing. i pair it with harryette mullen's essay (story?) "She Swam on From Sea to Shine," to which the students all say huh?
