it was amazing
bookshelves: creepy, fantasy-modern-magic-realism, ya, myth-legend
Read in November, 2011

Excellent dark-magic-realism YA fantasy about Briony, a minister's daughter, who thinks she is a witch who causes all the bad things that have happened to her family and who fears her ability to talk to mythical creatures. Lots of family dynamic with the childish twin sister, distant father, love-interest visiting young man and a whole lot of vague creepiness. You can feel that Billingsley is a broad reader of witchy fiction and history, and the darkness of the plot is not hopeless. Vaguely historical. Worth reading Right Now even if you are tired of the Nat'l Book Award nominees.
