I thought this was a great story about a teen-age girl loner who loves two things: the River and shooting game. This story of survival opens with beautiful descriptions of nature by the river, and the writing stays excellent through-out.

After her mom leaves and then her dad dies, Margo becomes estranged from her relatives (I won't spoil it by saying why, but there's some trouble). She chooses to live on her own because she wants to live by the river. She also loves shooting; and it's by shooting and eating wild rabbits and such that she survives. She also gets help from some men who fall in love with her. Her mom is no help, unless you count her offer to help Margaret get an abortion. Lots of interesting characters.
