really liked it
bookshelves: novels

A really well-written book that touches a chord for it honesty, simplicity and wit, I can understand why Plath's "The Bell Jar" has gone on to become one of America's Classics. In this semi-autobiographical novel, Sylvia Plath tells the story of her teenage years through The tale of Esther Greenwood. I really enjoyed this story of a girl plunged into the materialistic world of a big city, identity crisis, her depression and eventual mental breakdown. The story is very poignant as she braves wrong treatment before finding relief in a private mental institution. Like everyone of us, she battles with questions of morality and proper behaviour. My only regret is that this book is Plath's only novel. A must read for everyone.
