Solid, but not quite as good as the first two. Probably because Count Olaf is not as consistent or big a presence. He only shows up in the middle, after the kids have been living with Aunt Josephine and drinking chilled cucumber soup in a freezing house, and then we see him for like 5 minutes. And the next day he's "killed" Aunt Josephine and he and Mr. Poe take the kids to lunch, but the kids quickly get out of it by inducing an allergic reaction to peppermint. Then they spend forever decoding the letter and getting to the cave and trying to get back, and basically Count Olaf is only seen throughout, like, 20% of the book.

But it's still pretty solid.
