It seems that English historians have a thing with making history a bit boring. While the story is complete and his thesis is defended well, the reading was a bit of a chore. His theses that the Christian crusaders went on the crusades because they were Christian and that their brutality was because warfare for European warriors in the Middle Ages was brutal, were well defended and helped to dispel the old stories of crusading for power and greed.
