really liked it

An interesting read. I am pleasantly surprised by both Steve Martin's impressive knowledge of the art world (in particular the business side of it) and his ability to craft a well-told story with some intriguing characters. I found the main character, Lacey, to be almost vile at points, so self absorbed it was infuriating, but I think that was part of the point, and it was vital to the story that she was mannered in this way. Other characters help bring the story to life, though, from her co-workers to her lovers, and her old friend who narrates the whole story from a rather curious perspective. The insights into art and the art world, and this whole concept that art is beautiful but the art world is not, are truly fascinating, and clearly Martin is a man who is not only knowledgeable but passionate about this subject. Definitely worth a read.
