This is a moving and informative historical verse novel about Cuba's three wars for independence in the second half of the 19th century. It is told from the perspectives of several fictional characters (Lieutenant Death, Silvia) and several fictionalized real characters (Rosa - Rosario Castellanos, or Rosa la Bayamesa, her husband, JoseFrancisco Varona, Captain-General Weyler).
