I hate giving Sandra Brown three stars. Never given her such a low rating before but this one just didn't work for me. The hero meets his daughter thirty years after she was born because her mother called him to say she was in trouble. He runs to her rescue and I like the way he's an addicted smoker. The odd fault in a hero, especially one so politically incorrect, makes a nice change.

My main beef was that there's too much back story. Yes, some was necessary to let the reader know why the couple had separated 30 years earlier but there was way too much of it and it lost my interest. The salient facts could have been portrayed more economically, without slowing the story down. I kind of felt it was in there to flesh the story out and reach the required word count.

Also, the daughter did some just plain dumb things. If you were scared for your life because you were being stalked, would you call the stalker and try and talk sense into him? It just didn't make sense.
