Lucinda's parents were killed when she was five, and she was sent to live with her uncle and his horribly mean wife. She slaves away in their jewelry store until the day that a "witch" comes in with a jewel...

This book was an adorable retelling of the Cinderella story. It featured the beautiful young girl, a "witch" with mysterious powers, a handsome prince, a ball, and a goat named Dog. The characters were all a bit one-dimensional and some fell completely flat, but the beautiful descriptions filled in this gap for me. The origin story of the witch was far-fetched and weird.

Overall it was a very simple read, but I enjoyed it.
