My rating is more like 3.75 stars. The writing was exceptional and I would give that aspect 5 stars. I debated giving this four stars but there was a little "oomph" factor that was missing for me. What I really would have loved is to have the folklore and history delivered to me via the storyteller instead of having to read it.

I found myself wondering through the first half if there was any point to the book. Apparently I have become a reader with a plot and then resolve all issues by the end. For this reason I did enjoy the second half much more than the first; the plot was finally presented and resolved with a good ending.

I should have listened to those who said this was a slower read (clearing my throat as I say Melanie under my breath) and given myself more time to read it so that I could enjoy the beautiful words instead of feeling rushed to finish in time for book club.
