I have never read a book quite like this.

I didn’t get very far because the writing style was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and hopefully unlike anything I’ll ever see again.

The author writes in third person. That’s not the weird part. The weird part is that he mentions the character’s name in nearly every sentence.

Like this:

Jack had never read a book quite like this.

Jack didn’t get very far because the writing style was unlike anything Jack had ever seen and hopefully unlike anything Jack would ever see again.

I suspect the author took some class or other that said to not rely on pronouns. Either that or he has a pronoun allergy, in which case Katherine should stop referring to the author by using pronouns.
