Re-read 2015: Guy I love her supporting female characters. I love Beka too, but her friends and support system really bring this book off the pages for me.

alskdfjalskdf guh. It took me long enough to get to this book, given that I've been reading Tamora Pierce since I was 13.

I loved Beka and the cast of supporting characters; I loved the chemistry (romantic or not) between the lot of them. I appreciated how Pierce humanised those on the wrong side of the law - even those on the FAR wrong side of the law to the point of being detested by near everyone; she made it evident that they can care for certain things as well. Every character seemed dynamic enough to jump off the page and converse with me (or injure me, whichever was first).

Excellent dual-plot story that kept me interested throughout the book. Humour and deep feeling were woven through all sections, as well, which I appreciated.

Brilliant book! Can't wait to read the next!
