While the story grew more engaging as I went on, I felt like the story was uneven. There were moving sections describing Ruthie's feelings and experiences, but other sections where the details were a bit tedious. In the end the story felt important, like it had a message to impart to children, but getting there wasn't an engaging. Unfortunately, the narrator was definitely part of the issue. While excellent with multiple accents, there was a cadence that got on my nerves.
