really liked it
bookshelves: historical-fiction, romance

A young woman disguises herself as a valet to investigate her and her brother's inheritance. She's sidetracked more than a bit by her handsome employer, once he figures out her disguise, but her plot does manage to get back on track and end satisfactorily. Nicely done. There's a scene I loved where the hero remarks that the heroine is the (physically) strongest woman he knows, and she asks him if he has ever taken a look at the musculature of his cook! I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more of Chambers's work.
