General Idea's FILE Magazine was a mail art / gay culture / etc spin-off anagram of LIFE Magazine. From there came VILE, BILE, etc.. FILE, for me, was the creme de la creme of 'cutting edge' cultural magazines in its day. 2 of the 3 artists that constituted General Idea contracted AIDS & their later work reflected this in such forms as giant AZT pill sculptures. This limited edition of 500 is carefully constructed & inspired, as are all the GI productions I've seen. A venetian blind made from double-sided mirrors has a video camera aimed at it wch has its scan lines match the blind slats. The slats move, the camera videos, a projector projects the result on the wall opposite the window where the blind is. Nice, nice.
