I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It was intense and brief and a bit depressing, but I still liked it. The writing was nice and in a style that I enjoy and appreciate. I liked how the pacing switched from the wedding night to the couple's courtship...just when things were getting a little too tense and awkward, you would get a break! The way that the sex was described was a too graphic for me at times.

The ending was sad...I wasn't really expecting that! Couldn't they have resolved their problems in some other way?

(Also, am I crazy or did it seem implied that Florence was molested by her father?)

I'm not sorry that I read this. It's a good book, in its way. Definitely not one that's easy to recommend to others though!

(This is not the kind of book that I usually read. I think I was drawn to this premise because I'm a newlywed who was a virgin on my wedding night. But thankfully mine was a good experience and nothing at all like this book!)
