it was amazing
bookshelves: historical-fiction-with-romantic-el

Welp, I am now emotionally destroyed, whic is about par for a Beatriz Williams book. Dual (actually triple) timelines? Check. On point historical atmosphere? Check plus. Unimaginable tragedy on multiple levels, combined with enough of an optimistic ending that, were I in the time of the story, I would certainly require a cigarette? Check, and how. A brilliant, vivid reminder of why I love reading and writing about love in another time and place? Check to infinity.

There's also a side note about the setting. When I was a child and teen, we had family on Long Island. Not the fictional Fisher's Island, but I remember the feel and the taste of the place, and the distinction between summer people and year round residents, which added another layer for me, to the rich tapestry that is a Beatriz Williams novel.
