really liked it

This is a partial work, because the author died in a concentration camp. It might seem old-fashioned to some readers, but her descriptions are well-rendered and very visual. Right now, everyone is evacuating Paris as the Germans arrive. It captures the sense of people who are living their lives and then must confront a life-rending catastrophe. There are several families we are following, so we get a glimpse of life of folks from various classes and walks of life. Obviously, this one is *not* going to have a happy ending, but the pleasure is in the details here.
