While this book is well written, and a pretty quick read, it still grows rather tiresome at times. The narrative style is essentially just one side of a conversation, which most of the times seems more like a not-so-subtle berating of the muted listener. The plot is basically given away on the back of the book, so I would not say there is much suspense; however, the author does a good enough job keeping the reader interested in the "why". The author's knowledge of art and artistic technique is also a nice boon for the overall feel of the book and kept me that much more interested. Considering one could read this book in a day, I would not turn anyone away from it, but at the same time I might try and steer them to the author's much better book, The Dream of Scipio.
