really liked it
bookshelves: world-war, soe, reference-only

I'm not actually reading this in its entirety: I'm using it as a reference-only for my editorial comments on Pearl Witherington's memoir which I'll be turning in to the Chicago Review Press on June 1st of this year. Foot's book is very thorough although I've learned from other sources that Foot did NOT have access to all of the SOE files, most of which had been sealed until just a few years ago.

But he had himself been an agent and he did a stellar job with the material available to him at the time.

BTW, Foot died just recently, on February 18th of this year. It wasn't in any American newspapers but the French journalist who interviewed Pearl Witherington for her memoir sent me the obituary; he was more generally known in Europe.
