With surrogate mothers and all the expensive regimes women are undergoing these days to try to get pregnant, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale is looking less and less like science fiction. I made the mistake of reading this book when I was pregnant with my first child, and it scared me to death. I was on a hormone-induced trip that kept me turning the pages. In many ways, I find this to be a sad book, but it is an excellent springboard for discussions of the future of human reproduction.
