really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

And so ends my journey with Simplicius through 17th century Germany and beyond—including some fantastic forays into the unknown. What struck me the most about all this is the seeming modernity of the author’s sensibilities. It turns out people back then were more like us than we (or I) would think. This is what I love the most about reading ‘old’ books—they remind me of the things we have in common with those who came before us, as well as the things we don’t share. If that sort of thing doesn’t motivate you to pick up something like this, you should know it is also a fun, violent, at times outrageous romp.
