I have a few major reservations about the book; I've been kind of uncertain about my rating because I didn't know how to balance those reservations with the fact that the quality of writing blew me away. I wanted to note the problems/questions I had with the book, though, so here they are:

- While familial love is mentioned, overall the book comes off very strongly as implying "romantic love is what makes us human."

- I love the South Asian rep with Tobias, I love that he's a flawed character, but I'm personally not a fan of having a white character be the one trying to teach him ethics and that killing people is bad.

- I'm not sure if there's a problem with ableism in terms of aberrants being described as sociopaths (even though aberrants are humanized in the book); I'd welcome other thoughts about this.
