This was a very nice book that takes the form of a year in the life of an 11 year old page in a castle during the 1200's.
It was actually really informative, and I learned a lot. I wouldn't recommend it for quite young children, because it does discuss bathroom plumbing, and also hunting.
Toby is a likable boy, and as a bonus, I added Toby to my list of boy's names that I like:)
I have to mention the illustrations, which are done by the same guy who does the illustrations for The Edge Chronicles series. There are lots of illustrations throughout the book, and some are huge double page spreads. There is so much going on in the pictures, and the details are sometimes funny, for example a servant smiling at a lady, not noticing that he's pouring a drink right into a diner's lap.
The diary entries, accompanied by the illustrations made this book lots of fun to read, and also very informative.
